Trust - by Elizabeth Reynolds

This week I was blessed by the passage Jeremiah 17:7-8: “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the jobs that sometimes feel like they are piling up high over our heads. And it is very easy to feel as though we are incapable of doing the task set before us. Ill-equipped or inadequate. And this can lead to feelings of anxiety which are dangerous for our mental well-being.

The word confidence stood out to me the verse. I don’t always feel very confident about what I have to do as a teacher for example. Sometimes I feel inadequate, not experienced enough, I lack ideas or I fear that I will lack them at crucial moments. But this passage from Jeremiah, says that I just need to be confident in the Lord. I need to trust in Him and trust that He knows what He’s doing. He placed me in the job I’m in right now. He placed me in this very place in these very circumstances and I need to trust that He will equip me with everything I need.

Just picture being that tree in the place you’re in. Your workplace, your home, you church community, your school. If you would simply trust Him daily and place your confidence in Him, you will (a promise) have deep and far reaching strong roots, you will not fear when challenges come. You will have no worries in difficult times and you will always bear fruit! What a wonderful thought. What a wonderful promise. Praise God.
