Space for Grace - by Ben Bonython
‘your journey, your sacrifice, your desire, your space; for His grace.’
Jesus frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray. Luke 5:16
[Important to note <> Space for Grace is counter intuitive…]
In the peak moments of life, when you are riding the wave, when momentum is in your favour, you move with it, you leverage it. Yet Jesus did not. Luke 5:16 records Jesus withdrawing to pray. Jesus made it a priority of His ministry and lifestyle to create space for Grace in His life, even at the highs and naturally at lows of His life, and all the moments in between.
In other words, Jesus’ decision to make Space for Grace was not based on the hoped outcome or His present situation, but lifestyle and relationship. And this is clearly visible throughout His ministry recorded in the Gospels:
For Jesus, prayer and being alone with the Father was a visible action:
[Mt 14:13, Mt 14:23, Mt 26:36-44, Mk 1:35, Mk 6:46, Lk 6:12, Lk 9:18, Lk 11:1, Lk 22:32, Jn 6:15]
And as well as modelling, prayer was something Jesus taught:
Matthew 6:5-14, Luke 11:1-13
May you draw nearer to the Lord <> is there any better pursuit in life?
