Too Busy NOT To - by Elizabeth Reynolds
I was really struggling for time this week with everything I needed to do. My days sometimes feel like just one giant, crazy, chaotic whirlwind of things and I don’t know whether I’m coming or going! And on top of that, it was time for me to write a devotion to share with you guys! A little voice passed through my head which said, “You don’t have time this week. It’s okay, just skip it and pick up again next time. It’s fair enough, you’re busy!”
I don’t know about you, but this didn’t sound much like the voice of God to me. And almost immediately afterwards, another voice said, “You don’t have time NOT to.”
More specifically put, “You don’t have time NOT to spend time with me.” And this sounded a bit more like my God’s voice. So I stopped leaning over my desk with the stance of ‘about-to-bounce-straight-back-away-from-desk-to-continue-busy-work, and sat down instead – with just that phrase in my head: “You don’t have time NOT to spend time with God.”
I’m pretty sure there’s a book somewhere out there that’s called “Too busy NOT to pray”…? Same deal. I need God in my life. That’s for sure. And even more so when it feels chaotic. In my life so far, I’ve found that things just run smoother when I’ve put God first.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
Things work out better when I take the time to pray first, or at least during!
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess 5:16-18
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Phil 4:6-7
…Now, granted, Emily was asleep when I made the decision to sit down. And I did get up a couple of times in between to check on my biscuits in the oven. But I pray that this little thought blesses you and gives you a little nudge to spend more time with God and in followship with him – no matter WHAT you’ve got going on!
