Outside today - by Laura Duke
What a stunning day it is outside today! As I sit by the window, I am in awe of the deeply blue sky and the leaves on the trees gently fluttering in the breeze.
My eyes are drawn to the dead gum in the midst of the alive trees in the yard. In stark contrast to the other trees, its branches are bare and lifeless.
What has caused this tree to die, while all the others surrounding it are healthy? I have no idea, but I suppose that the roots have somehow lost contact with a water source. There must be water available to this tree, because the trees around are thriving. But this one tree has lost contact.
I think the same is true for us as people. Through Jesus, life is free and accessible to all of us, but sometimes we can lose contact with him. We find ourselves disconnected from him.
It's too late for the tree in my yard to be restored, but it's NEVER too late for us to reconnect with Jesus, our Saviour and our source of life. He is always there, ready and waiting to fill us with new life if we want him to!
I encourage you to read and reflect upon Isaiah 12 - may it be an encouragement to us all to take joy our salvation, and to draw it up into our lives!
