There was light - by Elizabeth Reynolds
For a while now it's struck me as very interesting that God created light, before He created the sun.
Not only is this interesting, but it is very very mindbogglingly cool! For three days, there was light, and not only light, but morning and evening! All without the sun and moon and stars yet. God didn't create the sun and the moon until the fourth day! Where was the light coming from? Well, God's word. Purely God's word.
God is so amazing He doesn't need a massive volcanic, nuclear-exploding ball of fire to produce light.
The Bible tells us that the sun and moon were created so that day and night could be separated and to serve as signs to mark sacred times, the days and the years (Genesis 1:14). It says that He set them (sun, moon and stars) in the vault of the sky to give light on Earth (Genesis 1:17). However, light itself already existed.
I think this speaks to the unfathomable supernatural-ness of God. Yes, he set the laws of physics in place and set the universe on a path that we could discover and explain with science, but He is bigger than that. Evolution suggests the universe formed and the Earth came into being at some point thereafter. But the creation story is different.
God had a plan. And that plan was Planet Earth. You and me. Right from the beginning. And everything else was created around that plan. That's the way it seems to me anyway.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
~ Ephesians 1:3-6
There were many things God had in mind before the foundation of the Earth. What a mystery. What a marvel!
Don't rely on the creation for light, or anything else you may need in this life. Rely on the Creator God! The source! True everlasting light comes from Him!
