What is Church?
“How often do we think in terms of the glory of the church? I fear, not often enough—perhaps because
we all know things about the church that are rather less than glorious. But it is precisely this ‘problem’ that
makes Paul’s ‘indicative imperative’ approach to the Christian life so important. That is, he constantly exhorts us to live out the reality of who we are as new creations in Christ, and not be resigned to our more ‘fleshly’ perceptions of ourselves. “But first we must understand who we are, and so today we will reflect on some amazing things Paul says about who we are as ‘the church’ in Ephesians 1:15-23. These truths may seem incredible, even unbelievable, but we need to accept them by faith because of who we are in Christ. And we need to consider how we as a church might be encouraged by these realities, and how we might live them out week by week.
